Display screen assessments are required by law, Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (amended 2002), but as importantly they are vital for the wellbeing of office workers. If a worker is seated correctly, knows how to use their chair (so often not the case) with correct placement of screen, mouse and phone they will have fewer work related muscular problems (formally known as RSI). This will result in less work time lost through sickness or medical appointments and a more motivated member of staff.
Sara Gordon offers that professional, common sense approach to DSE assessments. She has many years experience offering musculo-skeletal physiotherapy to her patients and has performed well over 100 DSE assessments in various setting, mainly offices. In her experience, often all that is needed is education, advice and the correct use of the equipment already in situ., resulting in not additional costs to the employer. Advice will be given regarding posture, self care at work for example mini breaks and pacing, and touching on lifestyle out of work. Good posture, self management and correct use of appropriate equipment will reduce staff sickness and absence.
